Names – Meanings & Origins (Android/iOS). Last updated 20 October 2026 (name suggestions and name-page ads added).
What stays on your phone
Your searches, favorites, history, swipes and quiz scores are stored only on your device. Search text is never sent anywhere.
Anonymous usage statistics (optional)
If “Share anonymous usage stats” is on (Settings), the app sends anonymous events — for example “opened a name”, “used the blender”, “finished a quiz” — and crash reports to Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. These include a random app-instance ID, device model, OS version, approximate country and app version. They do not include your name, contacts, precise location, advertising ID or anything you type. You can switch this off at any time.
Partner match (optional)
If you pair with a partner, the app signs in anonymously with Firebase Authentication and stores in Google Cloud Firestore: the 6-character pair code, the nickname you entered, and the list of names you liked. Only the two phones in a pair can read it. Tapping “Disconnect” deletes your data from the pairing.
Meaning suggestions (optional)
If you use “Looks wrong? Suggest a meaning”, the text you write is saved on your phone and sent — with the name and an anonymous ID — to Google Cloud Firestore for review. Approved meanings may be added to the dictionary for everyone. Please don’t include personal details. Tapping “Remove” deletes your suggestion.
Name suggestions (optional)
If you use “Suggest a name”, the name, meaning and origin you enter are saved on your phone and sent — with an anonymous ID — to Google Cloud Firestore for review. Approved names may be added to the dictionary for everyone. Removing a suggestion in Settings deletes it.
Ads (name pages only)
Each name’s page shows one banner ad from Google AdMob; no other screen shows ads. To show and measure ads, AdMob uses your device’s advertising ID, IP address and information about your device and the app, and — with your consent where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and some US states) — personalises them. You can change your choice in Settings → “Ad privacy choices” (shown where required), or reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s settings. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services. We don’t sell personal data. Analytics (above) does not use the advertising ID.
Children
The app is intended for adults — parents and families choosing a name. It is not directed at children under 13, and ads are not targeted at children.
Data deletion
Uninstalling the app removes all on-device data. To delete partner-match data, tap Disconnect in the app, or contact us and include your pair code.
Contact
Email the developer address shown on the app’s store listing.
